ACL Tears
The ACL or anterior cruciate ligament is one of the major ligaments of the knee. An ACL tear is a complete tear or injury to the ligament most often through a sudden change in direction. It often makes an audible “pop” sound at the time of injury.
There are some unique signs to an ACL tear, especially at the time of injury. Some specific signs to look for are:
- A loud “pop” or a “popping” sensation in the knee
- Severe pain and inability to continue an activity
- Loss of range of motion
Meniscus Tears
A torn meniscus or meniscus injury is an injury to the specific cartilage in your knee joint. The meniscus is sandwiched between the cartilage surfaces of the knee ultimately helping distribute weight and improve the stability of the knee.
There are some unique signs to a meniscus tear. Some specific signs to look for are:
- Swelling of the knee
- Tenderness when pressing on the meniscus
- Popping or clicking within the knee
